What are Presuppositions
Coaching Presuppositions are pre supposed beliefs about people. Using the beliefs as universal truths in the context of a coaching or NLP session is an essential part of the coach client relationship

Below are some Coaching/NLP Presuppositions typically used.

  1. The meaning of the communication is the response you get.
  2. Choice is better than no choice.
  3. There are no failures in communication, only outcome
  4. People always make the best choices available to them, given their unique model of the world and of the situation.
  5. People have all the resources necessary to make any desired change
  6. If what you are doing is not working, do something different.
  7. In interactions among people, the person with most flexibility and variation of behavior can control the outcome of the interaction.
  8. There is a positive intention motivating every behavior, and a context in which every behavior has value.
  9. Anything can be accomplished if we break it down into small enough pieces.
  10. People respond to their own internal "map" of reality, not to reality itself. NLP is the art of changing these maps (not reality).
  11. The element in a system with the most flexibility will be the controlling element.
  12. People work perfectly. No one is wrong or broken; it's simply a matter of finding out how they function now, so that you can effectively change that to something more useful or desirable.
  13. Anyone can do anything. If one person can do something, it is possible to model it and teach it to anyone else.
